Arsenal supporter called “dirty f***ing Yid” at Islington pub
It has been reported that, during a football game broadcast at a pub, an Arsenal supporter was asked to leave after being called a “dirty f***ing Yid”.
According to the JC, during a live broadcast of a football game between Arsenal Football Club and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club at the Cally pub in Islington, Katie Price, a Jewish Arsenal supporter told fellow Arsenal fans to stop using the word “Yiddo” in football chants.
Rather than apologise, however, one fan came back with another man and shouted, “you dirty f***ing Yid” at the victim. The matter proceeded to escalate into an altercation, with the victim allegedly being violently threatened and told, “I’ll f***ing come for you, dirty Yid.”
The victim was then asked to leave the pub by the manager, despite explaining what had happened. Following her exit from the pub, the victim reportedly heard further chants of “off you go, Yiddo” coming from the premises.
The incident has been reported to the police.
In 2020, CAA wrote to Oxford English Dictionary to have the word “Yiddo” edited to include the controversy over its use and pejorative connotation when used by football clubs.
Campaign Against Antisemitism continues to report on and act against instances of anti-Jewish racism in all sports.
