Adur and Worthing Councils

International Definition of Antisemitism

In 2007, Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council agreed to work in partnership.

The Councils have adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism in full, including all of its examples.

The Definition was adopted on 18th February 2020 by Worthing Borough Council.

The Definition was adopted on 21st May 2020 by Adur District Council.

This information was obtained after Campaign Against Antisemitism submitted a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on 6th August 2021, to which the Councils responded on 13th September 2021.

As part of its response, Worthing Borough Council provided minutes of its Council meeting on 18th February 2020, which show that the Definition was adopted.

As part of its response, Adur District Council provided minutes of its Council meeting on 21st May 2020, which show that the Definition was adopted.

Incidents

The following are recent incidents relating to the Council’s officials or councillors that have been reported to us, however we recognise that antisemitism is chronically underreported and it is possible that there are incidents that have not been reported. To report an incident, please contact us.

Conservative councillor Tim Willis, accused of supporting far-right Patriotic Alternative, resigned from Worthing Borough Council.
