The Council has told Campaign Against Antisemitism that it has adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism.
The Definition was adopted on 18th July 2018.
As part of its response, the Council provided minutes of a Council meeting on 18th July 2018 and the Council’s Strategic Equalities Plan annual report 2017-18, which show that the Definition was adopted with no mention of the examples .
In a statement on 7th August 2018, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance reiterated the integrality of the examples to the Definition.
The Council told Campaign Against Antisemitism that: “While the adopted definition does not appear in subsequent annual reports or plans, the Council has embedded it into the organisation’s internal processes. For example, we would use the definition and supporting examples when considering related complaints. This ensures the identification of Antisemitism is clear, fair, and accurate and reflects our commitment to eliminate discrimination.”
This information was obtained after Campaign Against Antisemitism submitted a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on 20th June 2024, to which the Council responded on 29th July 2024 with an update on 8th August 2024.
