Antisemitism in Local Authorities

North Northamptonshire Council

International Definition of Antisemitism

The Council does not appear to have adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism.

The Council was established on 1st April 2021.

It replaced Corby Borough Council, East Northamptonshire Council, Kettering Borough Council and the Borough Council of Wellingborough (‘the former councils’)

In 2019, Campaign Against Antisemitism submitted requests to the former councils under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and it emerged that only Corby Borough Council adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism in full, on 31 August 2017.

The Council has told Campaign Against Antisemitism: “All matters adopted by sovereign authorities transferred to the new council in accordance with the local government reorganisation legislative framework.”

The Council has not adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism since it came into effect on 1st April 2021.

This information was obtained after Campaign Against Antisemitism submitted a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on 3rd August 2021, to which the Council responded on 14th January 2022 and updated on 3rd July 2024.

Incidents

No incidents relating to the Council’s officials or councillors have been reported to us, however we recognise that antisemitism is chronically underreported and it is possible that there are incidents that have not been reported. To report an incident, please contact us.
