Antisemitism in Local Authorities

Scottish Government

International Definition of Antisemitism

The Governement has adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism in full, including all of its examples.

The Definition was adopted on 13th June 2017.

The Government has told Campaign Against Antisemitism that: “The former Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Equalities, Ms Angela Constance MSP, announced the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Definition of Antisemitism (including the examples which accompany the definition) in a statement to the Scottish Parliament on 13 June 2017.”

This information was obtained after Campaign Against Antisemitism submitted a request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 on 25th August 2021, to which the Government responded on 16th September 2021.

As part of its response, the Government provided minutes of a meeting of the Parliament on 13th June 2017, which show that the Definition was adopted.

Incidents

No incidents relating to the Council’s officials or councillors have been reported to us, however we recognise that antisemitism is chronically underreported and it is possible that there are incidents that have not been reported. To report an incident, please contact us.
