Antisemitism in Local Authorities

Tees Valley Combined Authority

International Definition of Antisemitism

The Authority has adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism in full, including all of its examples.

The Definition was adopted on 28th January 2022.

The Authority has told Campaign Against Antisemitism that: “…the definition was adopted by the Combined Authority by the unanimous resolution of its Cabinet. Whilst the examples themselves where not specifically adopted, I confirm that I have asked for a review of our Equality Statement and connected internal policies. The examples are helpful will be used in these documents – as appropriate…”.

This information was obtained after Campaign Against Antisemitism submitted a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on 22nd April 2022, to which the Authority responded on 14th June 2022.

As part of its response, the Authority provided minutes of an Authority meeting on 28th January 2022, which show that the Definition was adopted.

No incidents relating to the Authority’s officials or councillors have been reported to us, however we recognise that antisemitism is chronically underreported and it is possible that there are incidents that have not been reported. To report an incident, please contact us.
