A Detective Sergeant at the Metropolitan Police has been dismissed, without notice, for social media comments on the situation in Gaza, some of which were allegedly hateful towards Jews.
DS Rebecca Collens, who has worked as a police officer at the Met since 2013, faced a misconduct hearing with the Police Misconduct Panel between 12th and 13th January concerning posts shared or liked from her Instagram account, including ones which reportedly referenced âJewish supremacyâ.
The hearing found that the politicised nature of the posts, given her role as a police officer, âcould therefore undermine public trust and confidence in the Police service discharging its duties in a fair and consistent way across all of Londonâs communities.â
It further stated: âThe facts and multiple breaches of the standardsâ that the report found âindividually and cumulatively did amount to gross misconduct.â
The Panelâs report goes on to conclude: âGiven its findings, the Panel decided that the only appropriate outcome to achieve the objective of the misconduct regime, and protect public confidence, was dismissal without notice.â
