Met Police fires one of its own over alleged antisemitism

Metropolitan Police

A Detective Sergeant at the Metropolitan Police has been dismissed, without notice, for social media comments on the situation in Gaza, some of which were allegedly hateful towards Jews.

DS Rebecca Collens, who has worked as a police officer at the Met since 2013, faced a misconduct hearing with the Police Misconduct Panel between 12th and 13th January concerning posts shared or liked from her Instagram account, including ones which reportedly referenced ‘Jewish supremacy’.

The hearing found that the politicised nature of the posts, given her role as a police officer, “could therefore undermine public trust and confidence in the Police service discharging its duties in a fair and consistent way across all of London’s communities.”

It further stated: “The facts and multiple breaches of the standards” that the report found “individually and cumulatively did amount to gross misconduct.”

The Panel’s report goes on to conclude: “Given its findings, the Panel decided that the only appropriate outcome to achieve the objective of the misconduct regime, and protect public confidence, was dismissal without notice.”
