Man fined for performing Nazi salutes outside a synagogue.

Kamil Mach, nineteen, appeared at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Friday 16th October where he pleaded guilty to racially or religiously aggravated harassment in relation to an incident outside a synagogue in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, in May where he performed the Nazi salute.

He was arrested several weeks after the incident, on 22nd May, and charged with a racially or religiously aggravated public order offence.

Mr Mach was released on bail under the conditions that he was not to attend any synagogues in England or return to the road of the synagogue where the offence occurred.

The court heard how Mr Mach committed the offence whilst a religious service was in progress, and that there were children present.

He was issued a £500 baseline fine, based on his weekly earnings, which was uplifted to £750 due to the racial/religious nature of the charge, but reduced back to £500 to reflect the guilty plea. He was also issued a surcharge of £200 and a further £85, making the full penalty amount come to £785.
