Scottish Jews bearing the brunt of hate crime as Police Scotland cracks down on online antisemitism
Despite the fact that there are only 5,887 Jewish people in Scotland, comprising a mere 0.1% of the population, they bear the brunt of 4% of racist crimes.
As in the rest of the UK, a growing proportion of racist crime takes place online, so we welcome Police Scotland’s use of its new cybercrime hub announced in May, to track down and arrest the operators of antisemitic social media accounts based in Scotland.
Other UK police forces could learn a great deal from this approach.
