The University does not appear to have adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism.
The University published a statement on its website on an unknown date in 2021 which stated: “Newman University Council, on 23 February 2021, agreed the Adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism. It was resolved to adopt the short definition, excluding the illustrative examples which we would neither adopt nor challenge…”
Campaign Against Antisemitism considers the examples to be integral to the Definition, without which an adoption is not complete. In a statement on 7th August 2018, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance reiterated the integrality of the examples to the Definition.
When asked on 12th August 2020, Newman Students’ Union confirmed in its response on 6th October 2020, that it had adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism, for inclusion in its Code of Conduct, on 24th September 2020.
