Textbooks in British schools in Qatar rife with antisemitism

British private schools in Qatar are reportedly earning millions whilst teaching their students using state-approved textbooks which contain inflammatory content.

According to The Telegraph, in a Year Twelve history textbook on the Second World War, there is no mention of the Holocaust. The primer also generalises Adolf Hitler’s ideology – which sought to rid Europe of its Jewish population in its entirety – as his “racist ideas”.

A Year Eight textbook, referring to “the followers of the Torah”, reportedly says: “None is more evil than those who have been invited to Islam and rejected it”.

The schools also teach mandatory lessons in Islamic Studies, Arabic and Qatari history.

These schools are branches of their British counterparts and use their names. One of such schools, Sherborne Qatar – whose English branch Sherborne School can be found in Dorset – reportedly charges up to £14,500 a year in school fees.

A spokesperson for Campaign Against Antisemitism said: “The idea of establishing British schools overseas, beyond the money, is to export British education and inculcate our values abroad. How are these objectives being met if schools are being forced to compromise and teach things that are antithetical to those values and corrupt the standards and reputation of British education?

“Some of the material being taught is outrageous and would never pass muster here at home – indeed it may even be criminal. These schools should be withdrawing their branding from the Qatari branches, as any failure to take action would amount to an endorsement of what is being taught in their name.”
