University Definition not adopted

The University has not adopted the International Definition of Antisemitism.

The University told Campaign Against Antisemitism: “We make active use of the IHRA definition as a reference point for our staff and students…Relatively recently, we scrupulously considered the formal adoption of definitions at the University’s most senior committees…After careful consideration, we concluded that adopting selected religion- or race-specific definitions may have the unfortunate consequence of appearing to exclude other faith groups or races in relation to whom definitions are not adopted. We therefore will not formally adopt the definition…”

This information was obtained after Campaign Against Antisemitism submitted a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on 1st June 2023. On 13th June 2023, the University responded.
