We’re recruiting!

Communications Researcher

Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) is the UK’s leading organisation fighting antisemitism nationwide. We strive to stay on top of current affairs where they relate to antisemitism and continually produce high quality reporting, publishing articles on our website, which acts as the best available repository for information relating to antisemitism in the UK.

In order to support our work, we are seeking Communications Researchers who can contribute by conducting independent research on issues within our communications team, enabling us to respond to developments swiftly and report with the highest level of accuracy.

As a volunteer Communications Researcher, you will:

  • Conduct independent research on items requested by our Chief Communications Officer;
  • Construct reports and dossiers to support the work being conducted by our communications team;
  • Liaise effectively with team members to ensure Communications Officers are well briefed on content that they are working on; and
  • Suggest content proposals that may arise through your research.

Communications Researchers do not require experience in any particular area but must possess a wide understanding of antisemitism in both its historical and contemporary manifestations and a keen interest in current affairs generally, along with the ability to conduct effective independent research using the internet and to present that research clearly.

Conduct independent research: You will be tasked with researching particular items by the Chief Communications Officer to support our work. This requires proficient internet searching skills to find useful information, an understanding of what constitutes trustworthy sources and accurate reporting abilities. It also requires creativity since information may not always be easy to find on larger websites, and an ability to filter irrelevant data.

Constructing reports: Using the information gathered from your independent research, you will construct reports and dossiers on cases for use by our communications team. Your reports must be well-formatted, readable and without error. All statements must be verifiably correct with sources provided where reasonable. All conjecture must be clearly noted as such. Accurate and informative reporting is vital since it will inform content produced by our communications team and decisions made by CAA.

Liaise with team members: As an active volunteer within the communications team, you will liaise periodically with other members of the team, sharing information and taking part in discussion via our cloud-based messaging application. Although you do not need a high level of technical understanding, you will need to be comfortable with modern messaging applications. You will receive relevant training.

As a volunteer we respect your time. You will not be expected to work to any deadlines but the ideal candidate would be able to complete research projects within a timeframe appropriate to the project. It is not expected that you would have to work for more than an hour per week in order to do this, although volunteers who are able to commit more time are also welcome to apply.

Suggest content proposals: Through your research you may become familiar with certain subjects and find that you are in a position to suggest topics that we may want to produce content on. You are encouraged to participate in the work of the communications team and CAA’s community of volunteers more widely, suggesting topics for us to cover or investigate whenever you feel that this may be useful.
